When you’re designing and building a website to represent your business online, there’s more to consider than just making it look good.
It also needs to be specifically designed to appeal to your target market – because if they don’t like it, they’re less likely to buy from your site.
Here’s how to work out what you need to do to design a site your demographic will love.
Do your research.
Before deciding on how you’re going to approach your demographic, you’ll need to make sure you’ve done your research. This could be done in a number of ways, for example checking out what people within your demographic have ‘liked’ and interacted with on social media – or even running an online event or survey to understand your audience a little better.
Consider the ‘trending topics’ for your demographic.
With a little market research – and of course your industry knowledge – you should have a good idea of what’s hot and trending in the eyes of your audience.
They’ll know the latest happenings in your industry and will like to see businesses that stay ahead of the trends.
In terms of a website, this will mean using designs that work well with their interests, as well as featuring new information – one example being a blog that shows off your up to date expertise.
Keep their age and ability in mind.
The age and ability of the site’s intended users are also important to consider. For example, if it’s aimed at kids or the elderly, you won’t want it to be too complicated. Whereas teens and young adults may be more interest in a site that’s hi-tech.
Make sure the site is tailored to showcase your products.
Regardless of your industry, if people are visiting your website, their main goal is probably to take a look at your products. Take this into account and make sure the site showcases the products in an effective way that users will enjoy browsing.
Monitor your competitors.
What are your competitors doing to set themselves aside from the crowd? If they’re using some cool new features that are relevant to your consumers, you may want to consider doing the same to ensure you keep potential buyers interested in your business over someone else’s.
Keep an eye on the latest updates.
As well as the latest trends, updates in technology are also important to consider. If user experience is a highly ranked element for your demographic, make sure you’re taking advantage of the latest updates, add-ons and features that could improve your site.
By ensuring your site is tailored to your chosen demographic, you’ll be able to feel confident that the people you’re marketing to will enjoy viewing and using it as they browse and purchase your products.
